Calgary Public Library is expanding its network of Early Learning Centres (ELC) across the city. This creative, kid-focused space at Louise Riley Library opens just in time for Spring Break as parents start looking for activities to keep their children occupied.
The Louise Riley Early Learning Centre joins 13 other ELCs across the city and becomes a unique space that brings the feeling of the outdoors inside! Designed with a unique connection to nature, this space draws inspiration from the land we live on. It was specially designed with sensory experiences in mind, including a marble wall, bubble tube, and sound and sensory rain panel.
The Louise Riley ELC is generously supported by donors to the Calgary Public Library Foundation, with special thanks to Wayne Foo and Heather Matsalla.
Looking for other options to keep kids productive and busy during the school break? No need to stress — Calgary Public Library has spaces and resources that your kids and teens will love.
The Library offers drop-in programs that are perfect to plan for or decide to join at the last minute. In short, registration is not required. Programs like Math Quest, LEGO Club, and Open Lab for Teens are engaging and can help your kids meet new friends.
Sometimes, it’s nice to be able to find things to do at home. That’s where the Library’s Digital Resources can help you out! On the Students page on our website, you will find learning and reading resources, booklists, videos, and more. Don’t forget — you can also access these resources using a Chromebook or desktop at the Library.
Did you know each of these spaces has its own unique theme and features? Which means that you could visit a different ELC or Questionarium every day of Spring Break and get a new experience. Find the space that’s right for your kid’s interests and age. For the little ones, ELCs support play and active learning through talking, singing, reading, and writing. For older kids, our Questionariums feature interactive activities and books for all reading levels.
Reading is a wonderful way to spend time together! Whether you read at bedtime or breakfast, reading can strengthen connections across your family and instill a love of literacy. Learn more about A Wrinkle in Time by Madeline L’Engle.
