Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Calgary Public Library has removed waitlists on 14 of its most in-demand digital romance and romantic comedy titles, offering unlimited eBook and audiobook check-outs through the end of February.
This initiative was made possible thanks to generous donor support to Calgary Public Library Foundation’s Fifth Book Campaign, which helps put the right book in the right hands, at the right time — so more Calgarians can read what they love, when they want.

Why can’t I find what I’m looking for?
More Calgarians are using the Library than ever before. At the same time, prices are rising, meaning that for some books — especially new and popular titles — fewer copies are available to meet demand. Great reads should be waiting for you, not the other way around.
But — with challenges come new opportunities to continue inventing the future of libraries.
Calgary Public Library Foundation’s Fifth Book Campaign seeks to raise $1 million this year to bridge the funding shortfall and ensure that every Calgarian has access to the stories that matter to them.
Major multinational publishers are placing restrictions on digital titles, including some prominent Canadian works.
Libraries lend digital copies just like physical books — on a one-to-one basis — but the cost for digital copies is exponentially higher. This means you may find yourself waiting a very long time to borrow digital titles.
These actions from publishers limit what titles people can access, which makes it challenging for public libraries to provide equitable access to information for everyone.
