Overview and Moderation

Welcome to Calgary Public Library’s social community.  

Our social platforms are for everyone. The Library does not endorse the views or opinions of users’ comments on our social posts. We encourage respectful discussions, sharing diverse perspectives, and posting relevant content that contributes to meaningful discussion.  

While some comments may be seen as controversial, unconventional, unpopular, or perhaps contrary to the mission and values of the Library, the discourse reflects our commitment to intellectual freedom. At Calgary Public Library, intellectual freedom means providing the tools and spaces to support the free exchange of information and ideas, respecting each individuals’ right to privacy and choice.

Guidelines 

We do not tolerate: 

• Profanity or offensive language of any kind 
• Racist, sexist, homophobic, slanderous, or threatening messages 
• Aggressive, violent, obscene, sexually explicit, or pornographic comments or images 
• Spamming or self-promotion, including bot accounts 
• Sharing personal information about yourself or another person 

The Library’s platforms are monitored 8:00 am to 5:00 pm local time, Monday to Friday. If you are concerned about activity or comments on a post, please contact Library Hotline

If users feel content violates third-party platform guidelines, they can report the post or comment to the respective platform (Meta, LinkedIn, YouTube, or X).

These guidelines are informed by the Library’s Code of Conduct, Library Premises Use and Safety, and Social Media Conduct policies. 

Social Media Conduct Policy

Obscenity, adult content/photos, defamation, hate speech (speech targeted towards people or groups based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, or any other protected status), threats, commercial advertisements, or solicitation of funds, endorsement of illegal activities, off-topic posts, spam, sharing of personal information (not limited to email addresses, telephone numbers, mailing or personal addresses, or identification numbers) is prohibited.
